Walt Maciborski

Walt Maciborski joins The 33 News as co-anchor from the ABC affiliate in Tampa, Fla.

But Walt is no stranger to Texas. He worked for several years as the co-anchor at KVUE-TV, the ABC affiliate in Austin. While there, he reported on many stories familiar to Texans, including the devastating tornado that hit Jarrell, the Texas A&M bonfire collapse and George W. Bush's run for the White House.

Walt grew up in Southern California and graduated from the University of Southern California with a double major in broadcast journalism and political science.

Walt began his journalism career in 1989 and served as a desk assistant and part-time assistant producer with ABC News in Los Angeles, London and Washington, D.C. He worked in Medford, Ore., before moving to Austin. He left there for Atlanta and then Tampa.

As a reporter, he has provided on-the-scene coverage from the Oklahoma City bombing, the 2000 Major League Baseball All-Star Game in Atlanta, and the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney, Australia. His work has earned him both Emmy and Edward R. Murrow awards. He also received a Barbara Jordan Media Award from the Texas Governor's Committee on People with Disabilities.

Walt (whose last name is pronounced MAC-eh-bor-skee) may be found hitting the golf course or the beach in his free time. He and his wife have three sons.
