Garland Fire Department spokesperson Merrill Balamciere reported no injuries, but it is believed that one pet died in the blaze.
Firefighters had a tough time battling the flames.
"The close proximity allowed the fire to jump to other houses," Balamciere said. "It was really easy for exposures to catch on fire."
Amy Carpenter is one of the residents of Valiant Circle who began knocking on doors. When she saw and heard the rain embers, it prompted her and other neighbors to bring people outside of their houses.
"Residents ran door-to-door warning people to get out, possibly preventing injuries," Balamciere said.
Carpenter said before the firefighters arrived, the fire spread to three houses and because there are no fire hydrants on the street, it took longer for the fire department to battle the fires.
Carpenter said she was glad to warn people during the fire because she believed they would have died.
Balamciere said six units caught on fire. One of the buildings containing two town homes was destroyed. One half of the second building suffered heavy destruction and the third may have suffered some roof damage.
