DALLAS, TEXAS - It didn't take long for the fire to spread through a 24 unit section of the Millennium Point apartment complex in east Dallas. 22 units were occupied when the fire started, including Bruce Dunbar who moved in a month ago from Denton

"Well, it looks like everything is wet. Everything I moved in here from Denton is all gone."

Dunbar lost everything, including a five-hundred dollar check that went up in smoke, but before he left, he made sure others got out safely.

"I just got up to get out." Dunbar says. "I banged on doors to let them know and then I had to get out."

About a hundred fire fighters battled the blaze from below and above. With temperatures above 100 degrees, they also fought mother nature.

"As you can imagine, it was quite hot." Says Dallas-Fire Rescue spokesman Earnest Gurule. "We rotated fire fighters in and out, you can't do that without re-hydrating."

Apartment resident Vickie Green served up ice water to help the fire fighters cool down.

"I know it's hot." Says Green. "That's what I'm doing, I'm going to get some more water for them."

Fire officials escorted Dunbar back into his apartment, it was exactly as he feared, everything was ruined by smoke, fire and water. As for Vickie, the blaze spared her apartment and she says she's lucky to have a place to live.

"Yea, too close." Says Green. "Thank God there were here."

Fifty residents were displaced, the Red Cross and apartment managers are finding shelter for those in need. Arson investigators detained and questioned an apartment resident. No charges have been filed.
