Apple announced today 2 billion apps have been downloaded since the company launched the app store. Over the past few months, users have downloaded more than 6 million apps a day, according to Brainstormtech.
Some very popular iPhone apps that have helped reach that number are Facebook, Google Earth, and Pandora Radio – All of them are free to download.
Free apps are most popular, but Advertising Platform AdMob estimates that 1 in 4 iPhone apps are paid for.
Even though most of them cost less than a few bucks, more expensive apps for medical references or audio tools, for example, are gaining popularity.
The most expensive app right now costs $900, it lets users access and control live surveillance cameras.
Apple also had some other announcements today: - More than 50 million people currently have an iPhone or iPod Touch - Those people can download apps from stores available in 77 countries - Since the app store launch, more than 85,000 apps have been created - 125,000 developers have helped launch those applications
