Residents around Lavon Lake seem to love the quietness and wildlife. A six lane bridge project is just not what they had in mind. Resident Kaye Nordby says, " There's really no place out here that you wouldn't see it, yeah I worry about the fact that it connects to the outer loop."
Back in 2007, Collin county voters approved a half million dollar study on the affects of a new east to west bridge. A public meeting was held earlier this evening to talk about a path.
County leaders say nothing else is in stone, but residents aren't buying it. Nordby continues, " We think that once they establish a path anything can happen."
Fearing eminent domain residents like Kay Nordby are fighting tooth and nail. She and her husband have set up this 'Save Lake Lavon' Web site hoping to stop the project.
County engineer Reuben Delgado says, " I know there's a group out there, save our lake, which I think on their website reports we're getting ready to build it, which is not the case."
Delgado says they really are just gathering information and says it wouldn't be built within 20 years, if ever.
It would actually be two bridges with a peninsula in between. County leaders say it's needed because the area has outgrown both highway 78 and 380.
At today's prices, the bridge would cost at least 150 to 200 million dollars.
