DALLAS -
Residents in one East Dallas neighborhood are on the lookout for someone killing their pets. But it's not a person they're looking for.
"We know the coyotes have been seen coming across the yard here and across the street," Debbie Finger said outside her Casa Linda home.
Finger and her neighbors say they're on edge after three pets were mauled to death by what they believe were coyotes.
Susan Hello lost her cat to an animal attack -- not long before seeing a coyote on her yard on two occasions.
"It was in broad daylight," Hello said of her last coyote sighting. "Basically, they're murdering our pets."
Tierney Hughes found her cat, Dorothy, dismembered in a neighbor's yard.
"It was one of her front legs, and one of her back legs, and then her tail," Hughes said. "The next day my eyes were swollen because I was crying all day."
Melanie Landay, who owns two dogs and two cats, said she's taking extra precautions.
"In the last few months, we've had to always be home before dark to close the pet door to make sure the animals are in and safe," she said.
Neighbors say they're gathering more information about coyote incidents in their neighborhood before asking city officials for help.
"We suspect that maybe some coyotes have been displaced by the construction that's been going on around the spillway at White Rock Lake," Debbie Finger said.
Now residents are left wondering what they can do to prevent coyotes from attacking pets in the future.
"I'd just be careful," Hughes said. "It's Dallas, it's a city, but there's still wild animals out there. It's dangerous. So if you have an animal not in a gate, just keep an eye out on them."
