DALLAS -
Pumpkins aren't just for Halloween or pumpkin pie. It's one of the most popularly used ingredients for fall.
They're in the stores, on the shelves, in your desserts, even on your skin. Pumpkin is one of the most popular ingredients for fall because it's so versatile. Susan Zidlicky, the Farm Resource Coordinator for the Farmer's Market in Dallas says, "You can also do soups, you can do stews, scrape the seed out and toast them." Susan says ditch the can and try using fresh pumpkin for cooking this year, and don't be afraid of the ugly ducklings, "Try a pumpkin that you've never tried before try one that's funny."
But if you're not an adventurous cook, you can pamper yourself with pumpkin. The V Spa at the Anatole is putting fresh pumpkin to good use, in their natural pumpkin facial. Tara Singh, an Estthetician at the V Spa, says, "Benefits for pumpkin as a facial are it's excellent for antioxidant, has a lot of nutrients, has a lot of vitamins." Made with organic honey and oatmeal, it's a luxurious way to enjoy fall's bounty. Tara says, "It's alpha hydroxy, which is an excellent for exfoliating all that dead skin and dry skin cells."
And at Bath Junkie, they're featuring their customized bath products. We chose pumpkin, ginger and warm vanilla sugar. After we pick the fragrance we make shampoo and body lotion with our fragrance mixture. And when you need to soak the cold fall away, moisturizing with detox bath salt rocks could do the trick.
But if you'd rather satisfy your sweet tooth the good old fashioned way, Tart Bakery has you covered. Kristen Massad, the pastry chef and owner of Tart Bakery says, "Today we are making whoppie pies, pumpkin spice whoopie pies, which are incredible." With butter, sugar, milk, spices and of course, pumpkin puree, how could you go wrong? We placed the cookies on a baking sheet and baked for 15 minutes. We sandwiched them together with Tart's signature cinnamon cream. The sweet, pumpkin treat is the best way to end your fall day!
