FRISCO, TEXAS—
The number one spot - goes to Frisco! New U.S. Census data says Frisco was the fastest growing city in the nation last year. It's population bloomed by 6.2 percent. The folks moving to Frisco: young families like the Kampes." There's a lot of new growth and a lot of improvements to the area, and we're seeing a lot of new businesses around us. So, I think it's good for our family," said Frisco Resident Kelly Kampe.
This is the first time Frisco has been included in census figures for a city with a population of more than 100,000.
" We're really not out there to get the growth," said Frisco Mayor Maher Maso.
Mayor Maso says it's just a byproduct of Frisco's successes. Things like: strong housing and new sports complexes. Some residents, though, say they don't want the development to go too far.
" I do like still being able to go around and see the cattle grazing and all that stuff and not just every square inch be taken with shopping malls and development and all that," said Frisco Resident Michelle Hale.
Mayor Maso says maintaining Frisco's smaller town charms is a priority. He says they do that through design and the projects they choose."
" I think they've been doing a good job. The planners have done well with the city and it seems to really keep that small town feel to it," said Frisco Resident Kevin King.
Mayor Maso says Frisco will be a big city in the end with a projected population of around 280 thousand people.
Maybe even bigger than it's currently larger Collin County neighbor.
" Plano did a great job growing and we learned a lot of things from them, but frankly, we're trying to do things a little bit differently," said Maso.
