Charla Krupp believes most women are making themselves look older than they really are.
She isn't sugar coating how you look. She says, "If you do a heavy duty colored eye, and lots of lashes and a really think red lip and a cheek that's prominent, you're going to look like a hooker." She believes most women are making themselves look older than they really are. I asked, What are the biggest mistake women make first of all? And Charla says, "One of the things women are doing wrong is using too much foundation! " Instead of powder, which can sink into wrinkles, she recommends liquid foundation with moisturizer to plump up skin and give it a healthy glow, "Her real skin shines through and that's the look you want to use products that make you look like you're wearing makeup at all, but you do need makeup to get the no makeup look!" I said, "Shimmer is a wonderful way, especially in the cheeks to get that dewey look, but a lot of women go overboard. " And Charla said, "Glow is good, but glimmer is not, you don't want to see particles of glitter on your face, on your eyes, it looks like you crashed a slumber party."
Cream blushes can add pinky color and shimmer without going overboard. And the same goes for eyes, Charla says, "Magazines say 'it's all about a pop of color', well it's not about a pop of color if you're over 40."
Neutral eye shadows are less severe. And swap out black eye liner and mascara for more subtle browns. But lips are the crucial age defier. Charla says, "Red lipstick is very aging, because if you have any lines in your face at all, red lipstick will bleed into the lines, if you have lines and wear a light pink, it will not show." And we've all been embarrassed with listick on our teeth! Rachel Hedstrom, the model says, "You've got to fill in the whole lip to get a good red, so unfortunately it's way too close to your teeth!" Instead, Charla says go for light glossed in shades of pink and peach to complete the younger look. Glenda Albus, another model says, "It's real sheer, real pretty, just enough color!"
Behind the scenes: Charla had some other great tips that didn't make it to the story!
Fill in your brows, they make a big statement, but don't go too dark. An eye shadow or pencil one shade darker than your hair is the best color, and not too dramatic
Don't pluck your brows! Eyebrow hair doesn't always grow back, so overplucking can be disasterous. And the full brow look is in, so embrace those bushy brows!
Whiten your teeth. Charla says nothing ages you like yellow teeth, so get out the White Strips!
