DALLAS - The results are in for Lang Middle School in DISD. The district confirms a serious breach in security led to TAKS test cheating. DISD Superintendent Michael Hinojosa says the cheating happened over night.

"(The tests) were all collected, but they were put in a room overnight and did not have the security requirements that all of our campuses have."

DISD has determined that the room where the TAKS tests were stored at Lang Middle School, was either unlocked or someone accessed the keys.

The report sent to the Texas Education Agency on Tuesday states "the former Lang testing coordinator, in violation of district TAKS testing policy...failed to properly secure the TAKS test materials."

"Other people had access to the room in which (the tests) were located," says Hinojosa.

But who exactly erased the answers and changed the markings on the documents remains unknown.

In June, nearly 400 Lang 8th graders had to re-take the math portion of the exam. District officials discovered testing irregularities in May.

In July, the TEA later found similar irregularities for the 7th grade-writing portion of the TAKS.

The schools former principal Robert Peters and the testing coordinator, who was not identified, have resigned.
DISD say neither is cooperating with the investigation.

"They have a brand new administration in the building now," says Rena Honea, president of the teachers union Alliance AFT.

Honea says the internal investigation results clear up any doubt cast on Lang teachers.

"I believe they feel like they have been validated to know that there was no evidence a teacher was involved in this."

DISD is still completing its investigation on the writing portion irregularities on the TAKS test.

The district says once the process is done it will decide whether or not to pursue criminal charges.
