DALLAS -
It's not Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory but thanks to master mixologist, Keith Labonte, it's the newest cocktail crave with a tasty twist.
Labonte works at the Four Lounge in Uptown, which is the only bar that specializes in molecular mixology. What's molecular mixology you ask? Only the newest and hottest concept on the specialty drink circuit. "It's actually taking liquids and changing the flavors and aromas using scientific techniques, like using powders or gels," says Labonte who is the mixologist mastermind behind each drink.
The Four Lounge in Uptown is known for their signature cocktail, The Midoli. The drink is a party for your taste-buds with spicy mandarin gel, pineapple orange infused vodka with two parts ice to liquor. The trick is more ice than liquor for the foamy experience, and the result is more of a pineapple milkshake than classic martini.
The key is taking delectable foods and making them into interesting drinks, so it figures Labonte makes his own version of Crème Brulee. Vodka, and vanilla bean syrup are shaken till frothy with creme anglaise and a carmel infused foam finish. It just may be heaven in your mouth!
And a sugar rimmed drink is yesterdays news, so gear up to 2010 with pop rocks? That's right! A classic candy for everybody young at heart is now added to put some 'fizz' in your cup, literally. Labonte is no stranger to the treat and shares, "For a kid that grew up in the 80s, pop rocks and bubble gum, it doesn't get better than that!"
But as tasty as these drinks may be, don't skip out on dinner, because these cocktails sure do pack a punch!
