LEWISVILLE, TX - There's nothing more American than the idea of having a family and buying a home. But growing families have a growing concern tonight. These days there are several things that stop someone from getting a home loan: bad credit or no down payment. But what about a bun in the oven?

Deandree Simpson- Walker, 26, runs a beauty shop in Lewisville with her husband Marion who is a barber.

" My wife is actually due in October so we're pretty excited about that," said Expectant Father Marion Walker.

Deandree says once she has the baby she'll be back on the job.

" I plan on taking the average time, six weeks, but pretty much I'm coming back to work," said Expectant Mother Deandre Simpson- Walker.

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development recently announced it's investigating the possibility that lenders are denying families mortgage loans simply because a woman is pregnant.

" That's totally discrimination to me," said Simpson-Walker.

If so, HUD says it would be a violation of the Fair Housing Act, which gives protection for family status or disability.

John Rasor is a Dallas mortgage broker who says a women should never be denied a loan just because she's pregnant. He says it's more about a stable income.

" It's hey, you're pregnant and are you currently working? And if the answer is no then that person is technically unemployed," said Homewood Mortgage Owner John Rasor.

He says it is normal for women on maternity leave to provide letters to lenders about their job status.

The Walkers want to start looking for a home to buy and they're hoping HUD will really crack down on any lenders that may be discriminating against pregnant women.

" I'm hoping that this gets nipped in the butt so we don't have to deal with that," said Marion Walker.

Deandree says home ownership has been a lifelong dream - something she'll need more than ever with an expanding family.

" That's something you need as a whole. You need stability. You need a house," she said.
