When Marcelle LeBlanc opened her Ft. Worth business six-months ago, she had a longing.
LeBlanc wanted to make people comfortable with their sexuality in an upscale, relaxing environment, especially women. Marcelle LeBlanc said, "The more empowered women are, the better they feel and it's important to be happy to make others happy."
Her store, The Velvet Box, focuses on education and customer service. There is a chandelier, stained concrete floors and one of the largest reference sections in the Metroplex. Come July 22nd, there will also be what LeBlanc calls is a first for sex-positive stores in DFW. She said, "It's fun. It's educational. It's necessary."
It is a series of free relationship classes called Lessons in Love. The focus is on communication and intimacy. Not sex. Dr. Kweenthai Neill said, "The word went out. The class is full, so you know that people are curious."
Neill is a health educator and clinical hypnotherapist. She'll be teaching the classes. The subjects, which include speaking so your partner listens, cheating and how to talk to your children about love, sex and relationships are serious. Dr. Kweethai Neill said, "As I looked at the list of people coming, these are not teenagers. These are adults who are currently in relationships, who are curious, who want to know more how to be better partners for each other."
Marcelle LeBlanc says the topics stem from questions customers asked them and the longing to learn doesn't surprise her. She said, "It tells me people are interested. They're interested in learning. They want to get more information."
The first class is July 22nd. They run through the end of the year.
