ADDISON - Why is Dallas Cowboys Left Guard Leonard Davis working the back house of a restaurant? Because it happens to be his restaurant, Smashburger, which he just opened in Addison along with fellow player and partner, Mark Colombo. I asked Leonard, "There's a pretty big difference between Dallas Cowboys player and Chef, so how did you transition into the Burger world? Have you been practicing smashing those burgers?" And he said, "Actually today was my first day, and I might say I'm an amateur, but I learn pretty quick."

On opening night guests and players came to check out the new digs. Jenny Kosier says, "We love the jerseys hanging on the walls and we kind of feel at home around here." And they tried out the signature burgers, like Michael Byrnes who said, "We wanted to come and check it out first hand and get a chance to support them." And Mark Playko who said, "The Baha burger is a really big burger with fresh jalapenos, guacamole." And Michael Byrnes said, "It's very juicy, it's not your kind of cookie cutter burger." Scott Crane, the President of Smashburger said of the burger he was eating, "This right here is our Lonestar Smashburger, it's topped with chili diced onions, cheddar cheese and fresh jalapeno."

And while most of the food is decadent, like even the fresh vegetables that are deep fried, there are some lighter options for the healthy conscious. Jenny Kosier says, "I got the Smash chicken burger and it was delicious." But what makes the burger so special? Leonard says it's all in the technique of 'smashing' the burger on the skillet, which sears the flavor in. But he's still learning the ropes, he says of his smashing, "Aw, I messed that one up, see I didn't do it good."

So if you drop by, check and see who's serving up your order, he may just join you for a burger and a shake.
