TCU Baseball Ready for the Longhorns
Fort Worth - Coming off an exhilarating win in the Fort Worth Regional this weekend, the TCU baseball team continues to climb the hill toward the College World Series in Omaha with a best of three series against the #1 ranked Texas Longhorns in Austin this weekend.

Just two years ago, Oregon State wrapped up back-to-back baseball national crowns. Before OSU did it, Texas celebrated it's sixth national title.

Since the TCU Horned Frogs beat the Beavers twice in the regional this weekend, confidence abounds that they can beat a champ. "Oregon State was a reallly good program" said TCU freshman Jason Coats who drove in the game winning run to clinch the regional title for the Horned Frogs on Sunday . "They've won two national titles, and it's a great confidene booster to go in an beat them twice in the regional."

Texas struggled in winning its regional, needing a walk off grand slam to win one game and 25 innings to win another. If they think they've dodged their only bullet to get to Omaha, the Frogs say the Longhorns have another thing coming.

"I think they're going to underestimate us" says freshman pitcher Kyle Winkler who will get the start in the first game on Saturday night. "They have a good pitching staff but right now we're swinging the bats real well and our pitching staff is really doing a good job right now. We've been underestimated the whole year, hopefully we can go there and play our game."

When the Frogs arrived at Lupton Stadium today to practice for the first time since winning the regional crown, they expected to be practicing on their home field but then they looked out at shortstop and saw a big giant puddle from the early morning rains. But that wasn't the reason the fields were empty all day. After a team meeting in the locker room, head coach Jim Schlossnagle led his team across campus, to the practice at the football indoor practice facility so they can get some work on the turf, the same kind of field they'll experience in Austin this weekend.

"We've practiced on the turf a good amount with the rain lately." said TCU outfielder Chris Ellington. "It's a good thing we have the turf so our infielders can get used to taking ground balls on turf"

The Horned Frogs lost their only meeting with Texas this year in Austin, 6-0, and Longhorns fans are expecting the same kind of rout.

"This weekend, there's no pressure on TCU" says Horned Frogs head coach Jim Schlossnagle. "If we don't win the Super Regional that's probably what most people would predict and the expectation level at the Universtiy of Texas is to go to Omaha and win, and if he (Auggie Garrido) goes to Omaha and he doesn't win, people get upset, and if we go to Omaha they're probably going to build statues around here. "

The first team to win twice punches the ticket to Omaha for the elite eight at the College World Series.
