The famous Roy Orbison song, "Pretty Woman," immediately draws the mind to Julia Roberts and Richard Gere's love story played out on the big screen, but to this business owner the classic song inspired him to open up this cozy little wine bar called, "Mercy."
"This is my tribute to Roy Orbison, said the owner, Glen Agritelley. In his song "Pretty Woman" he sings, "no one looks as good as you... 'mercy.'" So I tell everyone, we're not that sophistocated, it's just good 'ol Rock'n Roll."
"Mercy" is a romantic refuge, with rich deep-red walls and dark woods, perfect for those who want some privacy in a sophisticated setting. Operating partner Vincent Havard describes the atmosphere as, "a South Beach Tuscan home feel to it. You don't feel like you're at a restaurant or a bar."
"It's sexy, I think it's kind of a place, where you can just curl up and be with somebody special and share a glass of wine," said Agritelley. The customers would agree with him as well,
Their idea was to give their customers a variety of different experiences when they come to 'Mercy.' "There's more of a formal dining experience in the front, and in the back you'll see we have a lounge guests can move furniture around and pull the curtains around if you want a little bit more privacy and then we have the bar and the high tops as well," said Agritelley.
"I think that the atmosphere here is very comfortable, very inviting, it's kind of got a little bit of a sexy appeal to it, it's perfect for first dates, and it's a great place for girlfriends to just walk into and get comfortable," said Lindsey Jones.
The lavender couches, dim lighting, and 150 different types of wine to sample make it an easy place to relax in, and even if you don't know anything about wine they are more than happy to teach you.
"You can't come here and not learn anything about wine," said Jones. Another customer, Rodney Hand, also commented on the "Mercy's" expertise, " the service, the servers and the managers are extremely knowledgable about wines."
And if you don't know a lot about wine or don't know what to order they will customize a wine flight just for you, so that you you're favorite flavors are emphasized. "You know there's a lot of places that will have pre-set flights, like a flight of wine with different samples, but we actually can custom a flight for you," said operating partner Vincent Havard. "The first time that I came here, they had a waitress that was awesome,I hadn't been drinking wine very long, and I let her know that, and she had a great flight," said Jones.
And even though they are a restaruant as well as a wine bar, they want to make sure that the wine is always first priority. "We try to talk to the guests about wine first and then pair the food with the wine that they like, so we're really about the wine experience."
"Mercy" is a great escape from the cold winter weather, and if it doesn't warm you up their wine sure will.
