According to the National Association of Resale and Thrift Shops eight-five percent of consignment shops across the U.S. have seen increased sales within the last year. The average increase was thirty-five percent.
This weekend hundreds of women turned out for discount shopping downtown. They were also given tips for todays job market.
Everybody's looking to save a buck these days. 'The My Sister's Closet' consignment sale at the Dallas convention center is the place for women's discount designer labels, but no high end prices. Some women are here to sell they're gently used clothes, others come for the deals meaning entire outfits for a fraction of the cost.
Shopper Olivia Siudym says, " Probably from here, ten dollars or less, for a full outfit, yes, it's a good deal."
If you need help design consultants are even on hand. This year the event takes on deeper meaning as organizers try and cater to job seekers in this tough economy.
Organizer Emily Bailey says, " Busy corporate professionals, busy mothers, or even college graduates who are or people entering into, anybody really entering a new career."
While todays event is largely about fashion they say they can make a woman completely over from head to toe. They say dressing for success is only partly about clothes..make artists are here to help you with your face. Make-up artist, fitness experts, and career consultants are also on hand to assist job seekers.
Sunday is the last day for the consignment sale...all items will be marked an additional 50 percent off!! The sale is going on from 9am to 5pm at The Dallas convention center exhibit hall A.
