Grapevine -
A sea of cars fills the parking lot at Grapevine Mills Mall. Visitors from around North Texas come here to spend their money and making it easy to drive in and out is a top priority. "Actually traffic on the way from Downtown Dallas wasn't to bad at all," said shopper Ryan Stewart. "I expected a lot of rush but it was reasonable," said a surprised Aamer Raymond.
It' exactly what the city of Grapevine was hoping to hear. Congestion can turn people away and up until now the mall had just two exits from Southbound 121. One to the far north of the mall and the other to the south.
The city spent 275,000 dollars of its own money to build a third exit. The new road leads drivers right to the malls front door. "Very timely if you notice it came in last few days and I'm sure it got a workout today," said Grapevine City Councilman Roy Stewart.
Txdot had planned on building a new exit but ran out of money. Instead of waiting years for it to be funded the city with txdots approval built and open the new exit this week just in time for the holiday rush of shoppers. Not only will the mall benefit but so will nearby businesses. "If you enter the mall you either have to go east or west but now its down the middle, its gives us a lot more exposure," said Ruben Santana manager of Saltwater Willy's restaurant.
